Catholic Veterans Day Prayers

Veterans Day Prayers – It’s November and as 11th November is approaching, the buzz around Veterans Day is increasing. Did you know that there are over 16 million living veterans who have served for our nation in at least one war?

More stats for our readers: Out of the sixteen million, around ten million are aged above 65.

Veterans Day is an important day where we remember and thank all our veterans who have served our nation. Can you imagine being on a war front without thinking about your own life, family, friends? How many of us prefer to live in our own comfort zone? Right? So it is a great occasion on this special day to applaud these veterans’ efforts and honor them. This also encourages and lets our veterans know that we have not forgotten them.

Catholic Veterans Day Prayers

For me, it’s a very personal and emotional topic. My father served in the army for 20 years and my brother is in the army. As a family, we have mixed feelings of pride and fear. As civilians, on Veterans day we can show our love and support for all veterans. One of the best ways is to pray for these veterans. So here are a few Catholic veterans’ day prayers.

Father, bless our veterans and all who serve our nation defending our freedom.

For those who bravely gave their lives, grant them eternal rest.

For those who are serving, give them courage.

For those who served, we offer our gratitude.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Dear Lord,
Today we honor our veterans,
worthy men and women
who gave their best
when they were called upon
to serve and protect their country.
We pray that you will bless them, Lord,
for their unselfish service
in the continual struggle
to preserve our freedoms, our safety,
and our country’s heritage, for all of us.

Bless them abundantly
for the hardships they faced,
for the sacrifices they made
for their many different contributions
to America’s victories
over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them,
we honor them, we are proud of them,
and we pray that you will watch over
these special people
and bless them with peace and happiness.
In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

“Lord, You know how deep a warrior’s wounds go. You know the loss that many of our veterans in body and soul. You know the memories that haunt them and the scars that many of them continue to carry.  Please bring healing to those veterans who still hurt. Please grant patience and wisdom to those around them who cannot understand but can sometimes help the healing process. Please apply both natural and supernatural medicine to their wounds.”

Veterans Day Prayers To Remember and Honor our Veterans

All veterans we see have their own life, family and problems. We don’t see the struggles or loads of tensions they are under. So the best thing we can do is pray for their good and happy life. One cannot feel or know the depth of someone’s struggle but we can surely pray for his/her well being. Prayer is also a great way and symbol to thank you.

“Almighty God, You know every veteran by name. You know their deeds, their hard work, and their perseverance. You know their needs, both material and spiritual. Please draw each one closer to you and grant them all the peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7), the peace of Christ to rule in their hearts (Colossians 3:15), and ‘joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand’ forevermore (Psalm 16:11).”

What is the difference between Veterans day and Memorial day?

What is the difference between Veterans day and Memorial day

Hello Friends! As the veterans day is approaching, many people have a query – What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day? So in this article, we will answer the question.

Let’s get started.

Americans celebrate a slew of patriotic holidays throughout the year. From patriotic day to independence day. Perhaps two of the most well-known ones, though, are Memorial day and Veterans Day. Both these days are observed by millions of people across the country regardless of whether they served or not.

However, many are confused between Memorial Day and Veterans day. Often, these two holidays, including what they honor and what they stand for, are confused by many people. So what exactly is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day commemorates those who died while in service to the military and to the country. According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, three year of Civil war ended, on 5th May 1868, the head of organisation of Union Veterans, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) established decoration day as a time to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Major general John A Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on 30th May. This day was chosen since the flowers would bloon all over the country during this period.

It became the official federal holiday in 1971 when Congress passed the national holiday act. In the United States, people visit the graves and honor the graves for their contribution. Moreover, family gatherings take place on Memorial Day. A National Moment of Remembrance takes place at 3:00 PM sharp.

What is Veterans Day?

Veterans Day is observed on the 11th November each year. Veterans Day honors the millions of Americans who served in the country’s armed forces. According to few reports, Veterans Day formerly known as Armistice Day was originally a US holiday to honor the end of World War I which took place on November 11, 1918. In the legislation which was passed in 1938, November 11 was dedicated to the cause of World peace.

The new legal holiday honored World War I veterans. It all changed in 1954 after World War II. Congress amended the 1930 act and removed the word Armistice and replaced it with Veterans instead. This new legislation was approved on 1st June 1954. Since then Veterans Day is celebrated to commemorate the veterans who have served the nation. On this day, Veterans are honored for their patriotism, love and their willingness to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of their country.

How Veterans Day was Started and Why we honor it?

How Veterans Day was Started

How Veterans Day was Started – Hello my name is Jacob Martin and today we are going to learn about Veterans Day. Every year we celebrate Veterans Day on 11th November. But why do we celebrate and how it started? Many few know the reason so today we will discuss this in detail.

Veterans day is always celebrated on 11th November and I will tell you why in just a bit.

What is Veterans Day?

First I need to tell, what Veterans day is. Veterans day is a soldier in the military also known as the armed forces. Veterans day is a day we honor those who served in the military. Do you know that the Military’s five parts are also known as branches. The army, marine corps, the Navy, the Air Force and Coast Guard. Together they all serve to defend our freedom.

So if you meet a veteran, ask them what branch they served in and then tell them they are awesome.

How Veterans Day was Started and Why we honor it?

The reason we celebrate Veterans day on November 11th is the day that World War One ended in 1918 at 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month. The armistice was signed to end the war. An armistice is an agreement between two opposing sides that ends a war.

Everyone was so glad that war was over that the next year, in 1919, the US President Woodrow Wilson declared 11th November as Armistice day to celebrate the ending of world war. The day was to remember the sacrifices, bravery and celebrate victory.

Since then, every year until 1954 11th November was celebrated as Armistice Day. In 1954, post World War 2, President Dwight Eisenhower changed it from Armistice Day to Veterans Day because he wanted to honor all service members (past and present).

In 2016, President Obama signed the Veterans Day Moment of Silence. So at 3:11 afternoon, there is supposed to be a 2 minute silence observed by the United States people.

That’s the reason why we celebrate Veterans day – to honor all service members who have served the nation to defend our freedom.
